When protecting drinking water for 82,000 people, precision matters.
SRG Global Utilities’ team is rehabilitating the historic Bartley’s Hill Reservoirs for Urban Utilities. These early 1900s underground reservoirs supply critical drinking water infrastructure, including Brisbane Airport. Stage 1 involved relining the reservoirs to extend asset life while ensuring water taste and quality remained uncompromised.
As part of the early planning and focused SIMOPS activities, SRG Global adopted a “measure twice, cut once” mindset. The team designed and constructed a small-scale replica of the reservoir using the exact materials and products specified for the live works.
This purpose-built testing environment replicated real conditions, provided full assurance before commissioning and eliminated uncertainty. It ensured water quality standards were not only met but exceeded — protecting community trust while extending the life of a critical asset.
The initiative was recognised with Urban Utilities’ Crew of the Quarter Innovator Award, highlighting how disciplined engineering and creative problem-solving deliver smarter infrastructure outcomes.
